Engaged Educators, Helpful Guides

All of our faculty—credit and noncredit, full-time and part-time, on campus and online—embrace the Montgomery College Mission to provide educational excellence in a flexible learning environment so that students can meet their goals.

In 2015, there were 504 full-time instructional faculty, 948 part-time instructional faculty, and 241 Workforce Development and Continuing Education faculty. These instructors are dedicated to empowering our students with the knowledge they will need to lead successful lives. With a student-faculty ratio of 18:1, students don't just attend lectures—they can interact with and ask questions of their teachers both in person and online. As a result, students and faculty work together to customize a learning experience that meets the individual needs of each student.

Furthermore, Montgomery College's faculty are experts in their fields: as of fall 2015, 40 percent of MC's full-time instructional faculty held doctoral degrees. The strength of MC's impressive faculty members is clear in the number of faculty with doctorates, industry credentials, and professional certifications. Their range of extensive workplace and professional experience, as well as their connection with our community and with employers, underscore how Montgomery College faculty are in a prime position to help students achieve their college and career goals.

Featured Professors

In 2015, for the seventh year in a row—and 12th year overall—a Montgomery College professor was named Maryland Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The last five professors to receive this honor are Prof. Nevart Tahmazian (prof. of chemistry, 2015), Prof. KenYatta Rogers (prof. of theater, 2014), Dr. Greg Wahl (prof. of English, 2013), Prof. John Hamman (prof. of math, 2012), and Prof. Dawn Avery (prof. of music, 2011).

College is not just a place to learn theories and facts: It is where we learn to see the world in new ways, where we can find our passion for learning. It is a place of transformation, and my mission is to facilitate positive change in my students' lives.
